Model UT Austin Tobacco Policy

At Texas Public Health we call for a complete ban of tobacco products on the UT Austin campus.

This ban would apply to all students, staff, faculty, contract workers, and visitors to the campus: including buildings, parking lots and UT Austin owned and leased vehicles. It will also prohibit tobacco use at special events on campus such as sporting events, as well as any ancillary activities surrounding these events.

The purpose of a tobacco ban is not only to protect nonsmokers from secondhand smoke, but also to support employees and students who want to quit. This would result in cost savings for the university from better health and less litter, and promote a safe and healthy learning environment for students.
